During this 3-day workshop, we will approach portrait painting with a particular focus on modern techniques, principles, and aesthetics.

While demonstrating various techniques, we will discuss the balance between realistic art and abstractions while creating a cohesive design.

Students will be encouraged to develop their personal styles by incorporating techniques learned in the workshop. At the end of the workshop, each student will have several studies and one finished portrait that is more than the sum of its parts.

All art materials (oil paints, brushes, painting surfaces, palettes, mediums) are kindly sponsored by Rembrandt Artist Paint, a leading brand in art supplies. Additionally, this workshop will feature a special bonus segment – an inspiring add-on session. Whether it’s about storytelling, composition, or a fresh perspective on image-making, this part of the program is designed to offer unexpected insights and spark new ideas. There will also be a critique session and Q&A, where Alpay will give individual feedback and students have the opportunity to ask questions.

The workshop takes place in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic canal district – surrounded by picturesque canals, cozy cafés, and indie boutiques, the neighborhood combines creative energy with a relaxed, local feel. The studio is tucked into a quiet side street, yet just steps away from the city’s cultural highlights like the Carré Theatre and the Amstel River.

A special highlight: a guided tour of the world-famous Rijksmuseum, personally led by Alpay Efe. With his painter’s eye and signature wit, he’ll offer unique insights into the masterpieces that shaped art history – always a favorite moment of the trip.
